My First Thoughts on a Minimalist Closet

Six months have passed since I’ve started my little experiment.

For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about let me explain.

I am really intrigued with the idea of minimalist living and minimalist closet, but the thought of doing it now is a bit scary. That’s why I customized the idea to fit me.

I didn’t get rid of anything (yet), but I am simply keeping track of the outfits I wear and at the end of each month I do a post on what I wore.

You can take a look at all the months here:

As far as my dressing goes, I can definitely see a pattern and if I get rid of 90% of my wardrobe I can say I wouldn’t miss it.

TOP 3 THINGS I’VE LEARNED SO FAR

1.  You get to know yourself better

Once you start doing this for a while, you will get to know your style better.
You will see what you reach for and not and what you are missing in your closet. You will realize how many items you don’t really wear.

2. I don’t shop as much

Whenever I go to a mall and see something, I think twice now. I think back to this experiment, realize that I either have something similar in my closet already or I honestly say to myself that yes, it is nice, but I know deep down I wouldn’t really wear it.
Like I said, you get to know your styling needs better and thus you make better choices!

3. It is not that scary!

After half a year now I can honestly say the thought of getting rid of my clothes does not scare me that much anymore!
I have a pretty good picture of what I do and do not wear and what my lifestyle needs are. This helped me in a little wardrobe cleansing I already did.

In conclusion, I am really happy how my first six moths have passed! =)

I got to know myself better, I feel more free of the shopping frenzy and when I am getting dressed to go out I FEEL MORE CALM AND CONFIDENT.

What do you think?
Are you doing anything similar? If yes, what are your experiences? Do you agree with my thoughts?

I will be doing a post on how I cleaned out my closet.

So if you’re having trouble with it and are not sure how to approach it I will be sharing my experiences and how I tackled this problem. Stay tuned! 😉

Be well everyone! =)

OOTD Elevator Selfie

Hey guys!

I found a selfie of mine from an elevator. With a duck face. Can it get any more cliche than that?! X’D

image

I was going out to meet my friends. I wanted to dress up a bit, but not too much.
That is why I chose this jersey pencil skirt (so comfy! ^^) and a simple black shirt.

image

I realized I l.o.v.e. this shirt! Whenever I don’t know what to wear I reach for this!
Maybe I should do Ways to wear on this one? What do you think? Please comment!

image

It is simple, black, you can dress it up or down, wear it with skirts or jeans – it doesn’t matter! It looks good with everything! And it is thrifted! I payed around 50 cents for it and got sooo much wear out of it! ❤

If you follow me and my minimalist experiment, you will recognize this from last month wardrobe. 😉

Hope you like it! ❤

Second Hand Treasures

I’m doing a post on my second hand finds today.
Second hand shops haven’t been so popular in Croatia. They’ve only started appearing in a last year – year and a half and are becoming more and more popular. Yay! I don’t know about you, but I love second hand shops and flea markets! I don’t even need to buy anything, I just like looking around discovering hidden treasures. You know what they say: One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. So true!

So, I’ll post a couple of pictures with some of my treasures. 🙂
Please excuse poor pictures and lightning. I am still learning this stuff.

As you will see, there are a lot of pleated skirts. Couldn’t get enough of them. All of this stuff was bought either in second hand shops or flea markets.

Hope you like it! =)

This floral skirt was actually some weird lenght (mid calf) so I shortened it and it is now one of my favourites! Plus, it has pockets! I love it when skirts or dresses have pockets. It was only 35 cents.

Image

I was looking for this kind of a skirt in stores, but couldn’t find it anywhere. Finally, I found it in a flea market for 80 cents. The black shirt is from a SHS also for 80 cents. ”J. Crew” bubble bib necklace is from E-bay (under 2$).

Image

This skirt is so comfortable to wear. It is some smooth, light, flowy material which is great for summer. I usually wear it like this, but sometimes also on the hips, so it’s a bit longer then. Got it for 35 cents.

Image

I haven’t worn this skirt yet. Don’t know why. :/ I’m actually not sure if it fits me well. Got it at the flea market for 35 cents. T shirt wasn’t much either. It is a New Look T shirt, on sale for 4.40$ and the belt is Terranova for 1.70$.

Image

Golden skirt for 35 cents. I shortened it and haven’t worn it because I think I’ve gone over board and it’s a bit too short now. I’ll probably give it away.

Image

I feel so girly when I wear this skirt. 🙂 I love the pleats and the flowers and the lenght. Perfect! It was 80 cents and the jeans vest was 1.70$. The yellow necklace is Accessorize (1.70$) and the black tank is Primark (under 2.50$).

Image

I’ve already posted this one, but why not again. I like it! 🙂
Skirt: 80 cents, Shirt: 80 cents, Necklace: under 2$, Bracelets: 1.70$, Flats: 14$

Image

This is my teacher dress. Can’t wait to wear it to work! It is Zara for 7$. Belt E bay for 1$.

And for the end, some lovely bags.

That’s it for now.
How are the second hands in your country? Do you shop in them?
I was in London this summer and I was so sad I didn’t have time to go to some SHS. I don’t even know of any good ones. Have to look it up for next time or better, if you guys could share if someone’s from London?

Also, I’m curious. What do you consider a good find?

Well, I hope you like my little growing collection of second hand treasures. What’s your favourite one? How would you style it?

I would love to hear comments and styling suggestions from fellow thrifters! 🙂

Keep It Simple

In most of the cases, the simplest things are the best answers in the end, don’t you think so?

Same thing is for refashions (at least with my limited skills hehe :)).

Today is a Sunday. Today is a sunny Sunday. Which in my case means only one thing – Hrelić! =))

It is a great flea market which is only on Wednesdays and Sundays and you can find anything! Literally anything! Everything is on the ground scattered and you have to search is you want to find anything. There is a section with new things, but that is not so much fun for me. I bought a Burda and some skirts (each less then a dollar) and my mom got some backpacks and a sink. See! Anything! Hahaha, I love it! 😀

Immediately after I got home I got to work because it were small refashions.

The first one.

Image

I meant to hem it from the bottom, but then I saw two holes and I had to do it from the top part. I made two casing, pulled through two thin elastics and done.

The second one.

I had some trouble deciding what to do with this one. These were some kind of big shorts and my first instinct was to just simply unpick the legs, sew it to a skirt and hem it. But then I got the idea of a waterfall skirt. Something like this (pic is not a finish product, it is just pinned around).

Image

I liked it, but wasn’t quite sure about it. Something was bothering me. The fabric is some mid-weight cotton and in the end I wasn’t sure how it would look when I hem it. Would it be nice and flowy as a waterfall skirt should be? And I didn’t want to mess it up because the pattern on the fabric is what drew me to it. It is so fun! 🙂

So, of course, the first idea is usually the right one (and the simplest one) and I had to go with it! Here it is…

Image

Pants weren’t really nice, were they? :/ The T-shirt is also thrifted (less then a dollar). It is a nice simple T-shirt with lace panels in the sleeves (sorry, didn’t take pictures of it).

Anyway, can’t wait to wear them! ^^

Hope you’re having a nice Sunday!

Enjoy everyone!

Bye! =)

WOWO Post

Hello everyone!

This week really passed fast, didn’t it? I don’t know where it goes so fast, but sometimes it’s a bit scary.

Here’s a little post about the outfits I wore to work this week.

Image

Image

Weather was really weird, but no rain so that’s good. I was feeling a bit girly so Tuesday and Wednesday I even wore heels. I love these brown boots! The heel is thick and stable and they are soooo comfty! I love wearing them!

The pink Wednesday skirt and Tuesday dress (you can see original post here) are both thrifted, and Friday is more casual.

As you can see, there are always colours! Just gotta have them! XD

Tuesday and Wednesday outfits are my favourites. I can’t really decide between the two.

What do you think?

Pleats Problems

Finally!

Two days and two broken needles later, it’s finished! How can something so simple give me so much trouble?! Aaarg! :/

Image

I got this skirt while thrifting some time ago. It was this, some leopard moo moo like dress and a scarf for I think a dollar or 1.80 $.

I liked the pleats instantly! But when I put it on it was weird. It was baggy at the hips and made them look wider (and mine are wide enough ;)).

Image

I read the tutorials on how to make waist elastic skirt and it seemed easy enough. Boy, was I wrong! It is very different to sew with gathered fabric and with pleats! Much more frustrating!

I wanted the pleats to be nice and flat but while sewing I just couldn’t make it happen! 😦
As you can see in the picture down some look good, but while I was getting to the end of elastic I had to spread them.

Image

I still don’t know what I should have done? 😦
I did learn it’s very important to stretch the elastic from both sides. There’s that at least.

But I’ve put too much effort in it not to wear it! 😀

I think it will look good with a simple T-shirt for work and in my free time I’ll definitely pair it with the cropped top above! Really like how it looks!

If anyone could give me some tips please on what to do next time, how to work with pleats I would be sooo grateful!

Bye for now! 🙂

Project Undecided

I went thrift shopping yesterday. I saw this great hat two days ago, but didn’t have the time to go in. Unfortunately, I didn’t get it. Just as I walked in the store, some lady was trying it on. *sad* 😦

However, I did see this waaaay too big dress and immediately thought it would make a great party dress.

image

I really love the details on the fabric.

image

Initially I had this idea of a pencil dress above the knees with 3/4 sleeves. Something like the red dress down. Then I saw this neon dress and loved it! Now I’m not sure what to do?

image

All I know is that I don’t want to mess it up. Since I am still a beginner, I am feeling a bit subconscious about my sewing skills. I would like to wear the dress when I’m done with it!

So I’m looking for some nice patterns along the lines od the pictures above, but if you’ve got any other suggestions I would love to hear them!

What would you do with this dress?
