My First Thoughts on a Minimalist Closet

Six months have passed since I’ve started my little experiment.

For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about let me explain.

I am really intrigued with the idea of minimalist living and minimalist closet, but the thought of doing it now is a bit scary. That’s why I customized the idea to fit me.

I didn’t get rid of anything (yet), but I am simply keeping track of the outfits I wear and at the end of each month I do a post on what I wore.

You can take a look at all the months here:

As far as my dressing goes, I can definitely see a pattern and if I get rid of 90% of my wardrobe I can say I wouldn’t miss it.

TOP 3 THINGS I’VE LEARNED SO FAR

1.  You get to know yourself better

Once you start doing this for a while, you will get to know your style better.
You will see what you reach for and not and what you are missing in your closet. You will realize how many items you don’t really wear.

2. I don’t shop as much

Whenever I go to a mall and see something, I think twice now. I think back to this experiment, realize that I either have something similar in my closet already or I honestly say to myself that yes, it is nice, but I know deep down I wouldn’t really wear it.
Like I said, you get to know your styling needs better and thus you make better choices!

3. It is not that scary!

After half a year now I can honestly say the thought of getting rid of my clothes does not scare me that much anymore!
I have a pretty good picture of what I do and do not wear and what my lifestyle needs are. This helped me in a little wardrobe cleansing I already did.

In conclusion, I am really happy how my first six moths have passed! =)

I got to know myself better, I feel more free of the shopping frenzy and when I am getting dressed to go out I FEEL MORE CALM AND CONFIDENT.

What do you think?
Are you doing anything similar? If yes, what are your experiences? Do you agree with my thoughts?

I will be doing a post on how I cleaned out my closet.

So if you’re having trouble with it and are not sure how to approach it I will be sharing my experiences and how I tackled this problem. Stay tuned! 😉

It took a lot of time, but it doesn’t matter. It was inspired by Africa. As was the next one.

Rice And Spinach Casserole

I wasn’t planning on writing about this, but it just turned out so yummy I have to share! ^^

I was looking for a recipe for something with spinach and of course I turned to Pinterest. I found thisrice and spinach casserole.

image

Let me tell you it is sooo simple and delicious.
I did some adjustments of course. I never follow the recipes to the dot and I never weigh things, I just eye ball it. Is that good? Probably not. Hhh x) But it works for me.
What I did was…

Ingredients:

  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Spinach
  • Cheese (I used cheddar)
  • Rice (brown in my case)
  • Salami
  • Carrot
  • Egg
  • Bread crumbs
  • Milk
  • Greek yoghurt (I don’t know if that actually does anything for the recipe, but I put it in anyways lol)

How to:

  1. On a pan fry a bit of garlic, onion and spinach (I guess you could steam it too or put it in fresh, just chopped)
  2. Cook rice
  3. Mix everything in a big bowl: rice, spinach, carrot, cheese, egg, salami, milk, yoghurt
  4. Put it in an oiled baking dish and sprinkle with some bread crumbs
  5. Bake it in a preheated oven and toward the end put a bit more cheese on top for about 3-5 minutes so it melts nicely.
  6. Voila! That’s it!

Hat’s how I did it. You do your own thing.
If I had them, I would love to put mushrooms in. Next time. To make it healthier, cut out the cheese or maybe put in riccota.

Sorry for the pics. These are actually the only two I took to send to my friends on WhatsApp. That’s why they’re bad.

What are your favourite spinach recipes?
Are you gonna try this one? 😉

Fat Bell Peppers

I made this yesterday and unfortunately I didn’t take good pics. I just ate it all. hhh
These are just some pictures that I quickly took to show off to a friend through WhatsApp.

I found this one on Pinterest and like the rest of my recipes, it’s quick and easy.

Ingredients:

  • bell peppers
  • rice
  • mushrooms
  • broccoli
  • bacon
  • cheese
  • eggs

How to:

  1. Cook the rice and broccoli (separately of course).
  2. Fry the mushrooms and bacon on a frying pan and mix it with rice.
  3. Hollow out the insides of the bell peppers and put them in the oven at 200 C for about 10-15 min.
  4. After you take it out, fill it with the rice, bacon, mushrooms, broccoli and on top crack an egg and top it off with cheese. Put it back in the oven for about another 15 min. Check it and see if you need to leave it in more (all depends how you want your egg to be).

Basically, I just put in whatever I found in my fridge. Be creative and put something else inside! I did a very similar thing already, but with a potato! Yum! 😀

Bon apetit everyone!

Minimalist Living

So these thoughts of a capsule wardrobe have been going around in my head for a while now. I did some research, I know what it’s about, I just have to do it. But it’s scary!

I do feel kind of overwhelmed by the amount of things that I have, but don’t actually use. Not just overwhelmed, but I feel silly. Silly they are just sitting there collecting dust. And in the end, it is also a waste of money. Consumerism. Nothing more.

I guess as you get older, you start realizing some things. You realize you don’t need so many things in your life.
When I was a teenager, I was careful when I go out I would wear something new and special. My shirts for going out were not and could not be the same as the ones I wore every day. Now I just put on a plain white T-shirt when I go out and I’m happy with it (which you will see in my next OOTD post – read here :)). But I guess that’s how it goes. When you’re younger it is all new and exciting and you enjoy shopping more.

To get back to the capsule wardrobe. So, I said it’s scary. Let me explain why it is scary for me.

It is all about needs. As you get older, you change. Your needs change. Your lifestyle is not the same as before. Your style changes.
At the moment, I live in a place of eternal summer opposed to my home country where we have all 4 seasons. I do a job where I wear a uniform. Naturally, I don’t need as many clothes – no winter stuff and since I don’t have to worry about what to wear to work (which I actually love! :)), my clothing needs are smaller.

I am in my life now where I have a job which I know is a temporary thing. It would be easy to downsize. But, since I know this is temporary, I know I will need my clothes later on. I don’t wanna buy new again because I do like them. That is my struggle.

Capsule wardrobe maybe isn’t the thing for me right now, but I decided to do a little experiment. I will leave everything as it is, but every time I take something out to wear, I will put it on the side. At the end of the month I will be able to see what clothes I actually wore and it will give me a sense of my capsule wardrobe.

Here are a few pictures of my wardrobe so you can see what’s it all about.

What do you think about all of this? Any of you out there doing the capsule wardrobe – how is ti going for you?

Please like and comment! I am really interested in hearing a first hand experience!

And follow if you wanna see how this little experiment turned out!

DIY Bookmark

Hi everyone! Happy new year! Hope you all had a great time and spent it with your loved ones.
Anyone made some resolutions? I never do, but one of my goals is to read more.
I started reading Dan Brown’s “Angels and Demons”. So far, it is realy good. I like his books.
I found this tutorial for an easy DIY bookmark. There are so many cute ones, but I have limited supplies so I made due with what I have.
Here is the tutorial.

There are many things you can do. I don’t have any pretty paper, so I used magazine and washi tape to decorate it.
Here’s how it turned out.
